Day 22 – Proverbs 22
“The lazy man says, There is a lion outside, I shall be slain in the streets” Proverbs 22:13
I get tired of hearing, “Things are tough in Zim”. Yes they are. There is a lion outside and you will get slain if you do nothing about it. We keep telling ourselves that we can’t achieve anything because of the situation. Even if the lion [tough times] pass, we will still remain the same if we are unprepared to lift our hands to work. “A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, and will not so much bring it to his mouth again” Proverbs 19:24
We blame everything around us and fail to check ourselves regarding our attitude to work. Why do we see danger and not make an effort to defend ourselves? Instead, we easily surrender and give up. “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small” Proverbs 24:10
Excuses rob us from reaching our full potential. It’s too hard – It’s too cold – It’s too hot – It’s too early – It’s too late – It’s too long – I don’t have time – I can’t do it alone – I don’t know how – there are no opportunities. For every problem, there is a SOLUTION. We must make an EFFORT to find one.
Avoiding effort is the latest craze of the 21st Century. There are machines that can exercise your abs just by connecting patches to your stomach and the electrical pulses work your abdominal muscles while you sit and watch TV. The pharmacies sell you pills to make you lose weight so you dont have to exercise. We want to see results with minimal effort.
We are demanding an easier and easier life and in doing so, we are unable to surpass basic challenges that come our way. It’s so much easier to say “I CAN’T” than “LET ME TRY.”
We can achieve so much in life if we just make a decision to TRY. It doesn’t matter how useless you may feel about yourself and your situation at the moment. Stop looking at the “Lion” and look at what you will benefit if you don’t let anything stand in your way.
Father, we are guilty of being lazy and making excuses and doing nothing about the problems we face. Change our thinking and our attitude towards work and problem solving. Let us be a people that overcome adversity no matter how scary or dangerous it may be. Remove any traces of laziness from us and forgive us for blaming everyone and everything for our lack of effort. Thank you for pouring out Your wisdom over us and for showing us a better way.
In Jesus name…
