Day 1 – Proverbs 1
“A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel. Proverbs 1:5.”
The greatest hindrance to learning is ‘knowing’. When we KNOW everything we leave little room to improve. We should aim to keep learning. Be it in our career, at school, a skill like cooking, relationships, the bible, how our body functions or even about the stock exchange. The world is full of things to learn and the more we dedicate ourselves to learning, the more wisdom we will get and the more fulfilled our lives will be.
I love spending time with old people and learning from them. They are always methodical when they solve problems. They have attained this by years and years of experience and I am always amazed by how much stuff they know. Growing up, I loved to discover things on my own without asking for help. The older I get, I realise the benefit in seeking advice of people who have travelled the road before me. Not so they can spoon feed me, but rather, I can gain as much understanding from them prior to making a decision so as to prevent setbacks and disappointments.
Make it a point to find people who are smarter, better, fitter, more experienced than you because these people will have a wealth of wise counsel to give you.
Father, thank you for teaching us your ways. Our desire is to grow in wisdom and to be more like you for you are omniscient (all-knowing). Your wisdom far extends our intelligence but our prayer is that as we hear and increase learning, you will cause us to grow in wisdom. We ask that you give us wisdom because you give it liberally without reproach. Lead us to godly people that are wiser than us so that we can glean from their wise counsel. Be with us as we study your word and help us to see and understand You in a greater way.
In Jesus name..
