Day 3 – Proverbs 3
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so” Proverbs 3:27
There are times when someone has provided you with a service and they have finished the job and then you tell them, “I’ll pay you tomorrow or next week”, when you have the money in your pocket. In Zimbabwe, its always “I’ll pay you on Friday”. I don’t know whats so special about Friday but thats usually the promise (which usually never materialises) .I don’t know how delaying paying is going to help because you eventually have to pay. Rather just pay and be grateful that the work you requested has been done. In the future, the people you depend on for help will be more willing to assist you if you don’t mess them around.
Money is not the only thing that you can withhold from someone. When someone has achieved something, it is important to congratulate them. When you discover this achievement, you have the power in your hand to at least say “Well done”. When we fail to do this, we reveal a selfish part of our heart that always wants the credit. We hate to praise others because we want all the praise for ourselves.
It is important to get in the habit of noticing peoples achievements and acknowledging them by shaking their hand or giving them “likes” and saying WELL DONE.
Father, we ask that you would forgive us for all the times we have withheld good from people to whom it was due. Be it not paying on time or not congratulating someone who has done well when we could have. Mould us in to people who are generous with our resources and with our encouragement. You have blessed us so that we can be a blessing. Continue to teach us more about You and pour out Your wisdom over us liberally and without reproach.
In Jesus name..
