Day 6 – Proverbs 6
“Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.” Proverbs 6:6
Ants are incredible. They have no captain, overseer or ruler and yet they function efficiently and together without any confusion. They quickly assess what needs to be done and all work together to achieve a common goal.
The two key points that challenge us here are LAZINESS and FOOLISHNESS. We like to put the blame on others for not progressing in life without looking at ourselves and truly being honest with our attitude towards work. “This economy!” you hear them say, but spend the whole day whatsapping and sharing videos on facebook. Laziness doesnt require any effort and can show up without you trying.
Laziness comes about by not having a goal. When you know what you want, and you are determined to get it, nothing can stop you. Look at the ant, the minute a crumb drops on the floor, they are there. They know what they want and waste no time in going for it.
Ants are unconcerned about power. We as people like titles and positions. We love to elevate ourselves, yet the ant has no time for petty issues like that. They all work together because they will all benefit.
We are FOOLISH in the way we handle our resources. If we make $1000, we will go out and spend $1000 on the latest phone or the flatscreen we’ve always wanted, without considering putting money aside for savings and paying important bills first. The ant “Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.” An ant is determined in working hard for its supplies and wisely saves what they have collected.
Father, thank you for the wonderful example of teamwork and wisdom that you demonstrate through ants. They are so small and have no leader, ruler or overseer and yet they work so well together in harmony. They display a great work ethic and are not lazy. They display wisdom by storing up what they gather. We repent of laziness. Give us a goal that is greater than wasting time on our phones. Establish within our hearts an eagerness to work. Let us not blame others for our shortcomings but rather acknowledge our weakness. When we are weak, you make us strong. Continue to pour out your wisdom over us liberally and without reproach.
In Jesus name..
