Day 7 – Proverbs 7
“My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you.” Proverbs 7:1
Nobody likes to listen to adults when they are growing up. Teenagers feel they know everything and any advice given to them from adults is usually just to spoil their fun. Solomon had experience with women and Chapter 7 is a warning to young people about sexual immorality.
If you are a parent of a teenager, please do read the whole of Chapter 7. The generation we live in is all about sex and pleasure. We need to do all we can to teach our children so that they “keep our words” and “treasure our commands.” As we saw in Chapter 5, God is not against sex. He has a far better way for us than sexual immorality and that is the way of sexual fulfillment within a faithful marriage built on commitment.
The youth do not realise all the dangers that premarital sex has. “With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with her flattering lips she seduced him. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter”.
Yesterday, I read this … “For by means of a harlot, a man is reduced to a crust of bread, and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?” Proverbs 6:25-29
As parents, our mandate is to empower our children with the Word of God so that when they are faced with such temptation they will make the right choice. These lessons are not to spoil their fun but to preserve and prolong their lives and give them God’s best.
Father, more than ever we need wisdom in teaching our young people about sex and moral values. Sex has been so devalued in this generation. Pornography is so easily accessible on the internet which is making it harder for young people to resist temptation. Give us wisdom in speaking to our young people in a way that they will understand. Help them to see the truth of your Word regarding sexual immorality. Empower them to wait for the appointed time You have for them. Teach them to walk in the Spirit so they do not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
In Jesus name…
