Day 8 – Proverbs 8
“Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates” Proverbs 8:34
Listening out for wisdom doesn’t always happen in an obvious way. It can happen when you’re at the gym or doing your shopping. Something will happen which will grab your attention. You must anticipate the lesson or else you will miss it. If you are serious about God giving you wisdom, He will play His part in teaching you. Blessed is the man who LISTENS.
Wisdom is not something that you get overnight. It is the process of acquisition over time. You must watch for it “daily at the gate”. Every day, God has something for us if we watch for it. As a child, I remember looking forward to my mother coming home from work because she would pass by the shops on her way home. I would watch her car approaching and see the dogs running to the gate. Immediately, I ran to meet her at the car with anticipation and a very sincere question… “What did you buy for me?” , followed by peeping in all the plastic packets in her car 🙂 Lets meet Wisdom at the gate and ask what she’s brought for us. (Something to note – Throughout Proverbs, Wisdom is referred to as “she”)
Sometimes we can close our hearts from getting wisdom because we don’t like the source its coming from. When God is giving you His wisdom, he chooses the menu. It may not always be roast chicken. He will often throw in some cauliflower and broccoli because he knows that is good for us. Gods wisdom has been around for a long time and we do ourselves no favours by opposing it. “I [wisdom] have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth.” Proverbs 8:23-24
Lets pray. . .
Father, thank you that “Blessed is the man who listens to Wisdom, watching daily at the gates.” Because we have asked for wisdom, you have already begun giving it to us liberally and without reproach. In our daily lives we ask that we would become more sensitive to the lessons that you teach us that would cause our wisdom to grow. Help us not to pick out our own menu regarding getting wisdom but rather receive what you have prepared for us and LISTEN to you.
In Jesus name. . .
