Day 10 – Proverbs 10
“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Proverbs 10:4
At first when I read this, I immediately thought that it was referring to a lazy man becoming poor and a hard-worker becoming rich. Then I realised that this verse is also talking about ADDING OR SUBTRACTING VALUES from people.
Many life skills are not getting past down because people have become slack. Children have poor manners, are not very helpful or industrious. Left to their own devices, they will not change unless there is a DILIGENT HAND that will make them RICH.
Parents can teach their kids how to cook, make the bed, take out the rubbish, feed the dogs, braai meat, wash the car, change a tyre, clean the pool and mow the lawn. Nowadays, parents have become slack in doing these kinds of things and leave their children to play on their phones and iPads the whole day. The slack hand of the parent will lead to the child having poor life skills. Diligent lessons extend to having good manners, patience, being tidy, having good sportsmanship. A child with these qualities will have attained this from DILIGENT parents who were not LAZY in developing these attributes.
Be diligent to include your children in day to day activities so that they develop a wealth of knowledge and experience. It is good to have privileges like maids and gardeners but children should also be capable of doing these things themselves.
The more we give of ourselves and our talent, the more we enrich the lives of others and ourselves. “The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself” Proverbs 11:25.
Father, you are such an awesome God. Thank you for revealing to us a deeper understanding of you Word. Remind us of the talents that you have given us and how we can use them to add value to peoples live around us. We commit our generation to you. We are heading down a path of laziness because of technology and luxuries. Teach us to be industrious and to enjoy using our hands in these simple but valuable tasks. Cause us to be diligent in enriching the lives of our children and the future generation.
In Jesus name…
