Day 20 – Proverbs 20
“Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out” Proverbs 20:5
What better place to search for treasure than at the bottom of a sea! Deep sea divers are always finding valuable jewels underwater that have been lost from sunken ships and things that have been accidentally dropped overboard. They are not clearly visible from the surface but if you put your scuba kit on, there is a great chance you will retrieve something valuable from down there.
We acquire a wealth of knowledge throughout our lives from many sources. It may be difficult to remember the valuable lessons but we know that it is somewhere down there.
The advice and counsel given to us over the years goes very deep. It is important for us to GAIN knowledge but it is equally important for us to retrieve and APPLY the knowledge we have gained. When you gain a piece of Wisdom, begin to apply it to your life immediately.
Knowledge is POWER , but the APPLICATION of knowledge is WISDOM. It is no use having hundreds of motivational books without exercising any of the principles that you have read. Once the information sinks in to your heart, you must begin to apply the lessons that you have learnt. “Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourself. DO what it says” James 1:22
We don’t always need God to tell us the answer. He may have already given us the answer but we just don’t understand how to “draw it out”. When we study the Word of God, we must be prepared to look deeper than the surface because then we will discover beautiful hidden treasures below, that those on the surface can’t see.
It requires EFFORT and COURAGE to retrieve the hidden treasures from below. You may have to go very deep and swim through dark places and avoid sharks but your effort will be rewarded when you get your hands on the WISDOM YOU SEEK.
Father, thank you for the depth of Your Word and for giving us the understanding to draw from it. Let us be doers of the Word and not just hearers. When we learn something, help us to apply the knowledge we have gained immediately and not throw it overboard. Give us the courage to go deeper in Your Word. Thank you for all the godly counsel that we have received over time that is deep in our hearts. Our hearts are open to receive more from You.
In Jesus name…
